i promise that none of you hate DOMA as much as i do right now. my work computer crashed at 11.30pm. and then i stared at all the bits of paper and realised i had no idea where to put any of them and suffered a terminal no fucks error and went home.

I think you took my surreal speculation way too seriously (and in the process failed your geek test). The correct response was to suggest that paper uses a modified haplodiploid sex-determination system: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplodiploid_sex-determination_system) clearly a single sheet of paper is a haploid female (or a sterile worker female?); two sheets joined by carbon paper are male; additional genders are assigned to bigger paper/carbon-paper sandwiches (with the maximum possible be the "queen"?). The first stage of reproduction is fission (meiosis) into the haploid gender. The puzzle is how do haploid forms become polyploid? We know they form vast steel and concrete nests, and that only a few succeed in building these, but how does a haploid sheet of paper manage that? Does lesbianism play a significant role in this process? To what extent is paper truly eusocial? And why do these nests then produce jigsaw puzzles? I need a research grant.

As to the rest. Human are expendable slaves; computers are fragile and have to be protected.

And, in the most serious point of the entire comment, many programmers would willingly build a system where a single button is able to cope with child-rearing lesbians who have lived in multiple states, while requiring many buttons pushes for more common cases.
