IRL progress/treading-water-sucessfully; my lease is now sorted through Feb 22nd (although I expect to be out of here at least a little sooner than that, because I need to go hang out with Z for a few days prior to the 25th). Yesterday I finished the other thing I was making for Z, yay! It being Monday, I called the people who needed calling and subsequently had to go visit D.M., who is at least very good at being superficially nice and sweet (she's only a POS on the inside), and am likely to be working a couple of days a week for her as of next week (sadly she is an irritating employer on the outside. Both of the two worst employers I've ever had have been self-centred, high-femme serial divorcees with a noticeable aversion to actualfax work; I am developing a Type here).
She gave me the giant binder of this year's IRS updates, which I am trying to get through tonight; yes, they are very bad news for almost everyone who was working in the USA last year. I'll try to make a numbercrunching post about how hard the Republican congress is screwing you all later.
Due to the plans that got upended I am not scheduled to work at all this week, which is a great pain to my workaholic self but I'll try to use the time as best I can. On the plus side I could easily end up working seven days next week to make up for it, and for now at least I have enough spare energy to exercise semi-properly.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-11 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)Very interesting. :s We're going out that way this evening, not to look inside house but to wander around outside, in an attempt to make me feel better about stuff - the problem is, the only things I've been *thinking* about the house in the past month and a bit have been negative, so I've become full of irrational dislike. Need to remind self of the benefits of this house and the problems with its alternative.
Whatever happens we are likely to have bought a house in mid February and be in the middle of packing/moving when you land, with a view to releasing the lease on 30 Thanet at the end of February. That is going to feel indelibly weird.

It is, god, it is going to be weird. I'm only glad I'll get to be there one last time & to help you move things. Even M thinks losing no 30 will be weird. Wandering sounds like a good idea because you can find nice things in the area and so on, and plan runs and stuff.
I am pretty bad at keeping up with finance news from the UK but here it would be very surprising if house prices didn't continue to fall, possibly straight through to 2014 but definitely next year; there's currently a backlog on foreclosure processing because of the robosigning mess, but the legal settlement on that mess is about to go through, at which point the market can get on with collapsing again. The foreclosure epidemic has caused rents to spike as so many people have had to take out leases in a hurry, and Boston rents are terrifying. So, the math is there.
I am back to failing at everything bar cake. :( Trying to get back into writing again but all my projects have jumped off cliffs.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-12 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)Still with the lack of water bill and lack of indemnity paperwork. I'm wondering about telling our solicitors to drop the offer by £10K if the vendor's solicitors don't do the indemnity for us at the vendor's cost. But that has associated risks...

*hug* Decisions are hard. I am still hopeless at this moving crap and it would be a lot less scary if Boston was less expensive but it is what it is. I just hope you manage to get your boggles sorted out asap. :(
also this thing where I have driven a story 11000 words into the floor makes me realise I should never touch anything that might even potentially have a plot ever. This fic is not fun-horrible any more because I have no idea how to get from where I am to the pre-ordained ending without fucking it up. No fair no fair. :(
