....Oh ok, it wasn't just my slash goggles. Seriously playing that boss fight was like, "I am not sure how I supposed to feel here. I feel bad for the guy but he really seems to like it..."

Mmmghh especially as MGS frequently equates sex and violence/murder. Liquid later going on about how Snake enjoys all the killing kinda underlines the base sexuality of the Snake/Fox fight.

Snake/Fox is my favourite MGS pairing. What got me really truly obsessed with it was Fox's inexplicable, self-sabotaging behaviour in Metal Gear 2 (he is both repeatedly trying to kill Snake and offering him supportive anon radio advice? IT MUST BE TRUE LOVE), plus this brilliant fic on the kink meme (it takes place between Metal Gear and MG2, which I guess you've read the writeups of in the MGS menu).

Still haven't finished MGS1 (last boss fight is a bitch), so I'll leave that piece to read when I'm done.

But yeah, good, I was wondering if other people shipped it at all, because all I've mostly heard about is Snake/Otacon. XD

Fair enough! I always get stuck on REX forever every time I replay. I tend to run between his legs and then get sneaky hits in while he has no idea while I am, but half the time that just leads to him accidentally treading on me. :(

fact; MGS fans ship everyone/everyone. mgs_fanworks is not an old comm - it's only been around a couple of years - but while there's a few pairings that get notably more play than the rest, we've used over 50 different pairing tags. mgs_slash is a few years older and has a decent amount of stuff in the Snake/Fox tag, although, er, most of the stuff since 2009 is by me. But hey, the other big MGS1 ship is Snake/Liquid.

Snake/Liquid, ugh. Mostly because I just want Liquid to die in a fire. >.> At least Ocelot survived, if they had killed off everyone in FOXHOUND except Liquid I would be VERY VERY SAD, since he is the least interesting. CLONE AND ALL. I hope he gets more interesting in later games.

And I figured as much, I have a hard time thinking of when there is NOT some odd sexual tension in a scene. XD

Mmm, I've never been that into Liquid, though I think he's a more interesting concept in MGS4 than MGS1. Some people really dig him, though.

What really gets me are the Liquid/Otacon shippers. There are very few of them and while it tends to be kind of an ironic statement about Snake/Otacon, they split pretty neatly between pure fluff (often AUs where Liquid is a nice person, option on Solid therefore being evil), or as horrible grimdark fic - noncon, or, in one case, necrophile!Otacon. Oh MGS fandom ILU.

Seriously, MGS is the only fandom I've ever been in where the crazy tinhats who refuse to accept canon the way it is are the ones who don't go in for slash. There are all these people (esp in the military/gun fetishist zone of the 'boyfandom') who have all these convenient excuses as to why all the canon slash pairings aren't really canon, etc. I also got into an argument on the wiki once with someone who was posting untrue things about IRL history because they couldn't deal with the fact that Frank had fought for a Communist guerilla group in Mozambique - they kept trying to edit it to say FRELIMO was an anti-communist group. The best part is that Fox was about 11 or so years old at the time.

Metal Gear is wonderful and horrible. But the default character type is 'bisexual sadomasochist', and that keeps the fangirls interested. >>

I just hurt my brain looking up the Laughing Octopus character who is voiced by FFX Lulu's voice actor, and I now need to go gibber in a corner.

But after watching a few clips of the game, I immediately see what you mean. (The colonel and Snake are clearly flirting and driving Rose bonkers over the codec whatever the heck it is.)

Oh cringe forever, yes. The popular fantheory is that MGS4 was Kojima's attempt to kill the series forever because he didn't want to make MGS games any more. I have this thing for only wanting to read/write fic for something if canon doesn't quite satisfy...tl;dr I loved MGS too much to get into the fandom for nearly 10 years, and then I played MGS4.

THE CODEC BRINGS ALL THE AWESOME. Although I want to note that MGS is a totally heterosexual game for bros.

I figure it's fairly common to be led into a fandom by fix-it urges, or at least explore-it ones...I pretty much never read or write FFVII fic, for example. It's just too good.
