Plan A was ritually slaughtered by the landlord's condo association. We still have a Plan B, but it is pretty hilaribad. We have not yet given up. (Except that I can't find the packing tape and have seemingly given up looking for it.)

(tell M that when I went to my first college to take their placement exams, I forgot my suitcase and my ID, and didn't realize this until we got to the motel, and had to drive all the way back home to get my shit so they would let me in to take the test, and also so I would have something to wear. And then got placed in remedial math because I was running on two hours of sleep when I finally took the damn test.)

MUCH DESERVED, F5F5F5F5F5F5. and, yes, always. Nakki and me have taken to adding headcanon lulz/porn on pink post-it notes as we go.

I won't pretend to be a perfect owner of perfect pets, and Grendel chose to remind me of this by spending today throwing up water on the living-room carpet, but they really cause very little hassle and they provide better security than almost anything - Grendel is a big wet blanket but he doesn't look or sound like it, and you'd think that would be a plus, maintenance-wise? We're even talking about getting one of those devices that gets them to cut down on noise (I am still not sure how those work). And I just bought tonnes of cleaning supplies, though I am guessing the complex is going to replace our shitty beige carpet anyway.

Ugh. I am still confused as to why American colleges make everyone take math classes and I regard it as some kind of weird paternalism, but isn't it amazing how epic fail has such epic timing :(

I suck at writing today - well, I seem to suck at doing anything today. Oh well, if I can get some sleep there might be such a thing as tomorrow.

I was going to try to go to bed, but I goddamn just can't sleep, even though my eyes are starting to hurt. I keep thinking of new things to write.

yeeeeeeah two out of three of my cats have chronic hairball problems, and Mica tore down the blinds in my room because she is stupid like that. But they are completely housetrained and (people tell me cause I ask, out of sheer paranoia) my house does not smell like cat piss, despite there being three of them indoors at all times. Or else everyone is lying to me, idk.

Speaking of Mica, she has apparently just noticed the ceiling fan for the first time, and made a half assed attempt to catch the chain. Mica, you'd better be glad you're cute.

By the way. You want to know what's really wrong with American education? The class I tested into taught absolute basic mathetics. I'm talking long division kind of basic. Fractions. I thought it was going to be like, ninth grade pre algebra level shit. This was a STATE UNIVERSITY too, not some podunk community college.

You are writing? Gosh, you're so productive - I spent last night repeatedly rereading Gilda's new stuff and making little squeak noises. I really want to get some writing done soon but my next two shifts are at really annoying times, sigh.

Honestly I'm surprised how many landlords are more favourable to cats than to dogs - my dogs have never destroyed anything they didn't legitimately mistake for either food or a chew toy. Grendel ate a really good pair of my shoes a couple of days after I first met him, and I was really not impressed by this, and every so often they manage to get into the kitchen trash because it smells so damn intriguing, but that's about it.

Wow, and you paid how much money for that? :/

Eh, well, today I only got about a thousand words, and 750 of if is something completely the fuck new, about Jisa, idk. But last night I also made a lot of progress on that V/S fic that has been a weight around my neck all year. ;___; I had to crawl out of my ~~troll cave~~ bedroom to take a shower and buy some food, check my email, and now it's back to porning. (I SWEAR TO GOD I REALLY MEAN TO FINISH IT THIS TIME.)

But lol, productive. the last three months I have avoided opening my laptop, because I knew all these unfinished fics would be sitting there, staring at me balefully and asking me why I haven't finished them yet. I don't think one weekend makes up for that. :(

I am very happy that you have got back into the flow, but augh ;___; Such is WIP guilt. I've been trying not to get too wrapped up in anything myself because of this whole moving thing, but I miss it a lot so here I am poking at all my hideous files. I keep worrying about even the minutest plot stuff but am trying to go by a maxim I read in the old Homestuck formspring, which is that you shouldn't worry too much about details or self-edit as you go because the stakes aren't high enough. And the stakes don't get much lower than random internet porn but goddamnit line-editing is what I do :( :( :(

(Speaking of, trolls live in hives <---fact, and I will lure the entire world into Homestuck fandom someday, though possibly not you as there's tons of Flash games/videos which I guess wouldn't be viewable on your phone :/ )

yeah, line editing and revising are the best parts of writing to me. Once I get the first draft out, the process goes fairly smoothly.

(For the record, I did finish the V/S thing, now I just need to poke at it; ch 8 of E&O is maaaaybe half written, and the other thing is probably mostly done, too. If the gods are smiling I'll be able to start posting sometime this week.)

I vary, tbh; sometimes I can't bear to look at a draft. But I do a lot of editing as I go plus I line-edit to get back into the flow of a thing after having to put it down, and I can get pretty obsessive about it.

now I am going to be f5ing the week away, i hope you know. :P I do want to poke all my billion ywriter subfiles but I have no real hope of finishing anything new before christmas; if I'm very lucky I might get something resembling a chapter to come together. I have the hatesex au and Gilda's prompt (hello outdoor sex! canon kink is canon!) to go at, plus tons of other gloomy rambles including another thousand words of cavernfic (just kill me now). I wish I could write more fluff but all that is coming to me is horrible angsty crap. :/

Sometimes I do that when I get stuck; if I go back and reread everything, particulary if it's long and I've not messed with it too much already, by the time I get to where I left off I can pick up the story. But mostly when I ~get in the groove I can put out a lot of words without overanalyzing them. The problem is getting in the goddamn groove. ://///

The smut fic was actually finished twice at different points, but the smut wasn't any good, or rather, it just didn't fit the rest of the story. But I'm finally happy with what I have so far.

Aw! I was lucky, I managed to steal a whole bunch of pink postits from my workplace last year. The masking tape is for the back covers obv. Hobbylobby are obliging enough to sell individual sharpies for $1.50 each. It is all very convenient.

I was lucky, really, in that it was my big sister who made me read it in the first place and I first ran into Nakki not all that long afterwards, in Digimon fandom of all places - and I've never even seen Digimon and was only passing through the fandom because my irl bff wrote slash of it and that was back in 2002 when everyone was on dialup and therefore anime fandoms were full of people who'd never actually seen the shows they were slashing - because I mentioned it in an ff.n comment on someone else's fic and she emailed me out of the blue... I just find it hilarious that after those 10ish years of dipping into the fandom, trolling around, ragequitting, rinse repeat, suddenly this year there is so little of it left and it's all awesome.

I was honestly afraid for anyone else I knew to read LHM, because of teh gay. :((( I knew if my parents ever found out, they'd take it away and probably stop buying books for me. And the online fandom was balls, so all those years I was just sort of chugging along, having given up on there being decent people or fics ever, until you made that ''You know you're an LHM fan'' post on the lj comm. And I was about 95% sure I remembered your username from ffn, and thought, huh, small world. :)

OH I WAS IN GW FANDOM TOO. I GUESS EVERYONE WAS. I have, at least, seen part of the series, albeit not until after the only time I wrote fic. :D

Being an obnoxious troll I passed it around school a bit during 2001-2, sometimes just to shock people, which in retrospect was really dumb but in some cases warranted or even welcome, and hey, I had pretty much no sense of self-preservation back then (and still mostly don't?). But grim as it was the rural Pennines was still a much safer environment than the south is. No one ever talked about teh gay (except when bullying someone, obv) but there weren't any giant billboards saying 'HOMOSEXUALITY IS AN ABOMINATION' either.

God, I bet LHM--probably the whole Valdemar series--would have been banned by the school board (cause almost everything I read in those days came from the school library) and it would have sparked a witchhunt to make sure there weren't any other gay books lurking on the shelves. Which, there weren't. And I would know, since during my tenure in hell I read every. single. one. Hell, they banned His Dark Materials, and even Harry freaking Potter (briefly, there was enough of an outcry over that that they relented). Oh, the South, one day I will escape from here.

No, I have not yet seen those! I think all the more terrible billboards seem to pop up south of Atlanta in places with cheaper billboard rent. Wow. I love pro-life billboards - they are so very full of lies! What/where is P.C.?

MY FAVORITE of the prolife billboards is the one that shows a (white) baby with the caption I had a heartbeat when I was six weeks old! And the first place my mind went was, you know what else has a heartbeat and is an inch long? A cockroach! Anti abortion rhetoric is so stupid and full of plot holes.

There is also the bilboard in Columbus with the two white babies and an Asian baby, captchioned America's Greatest Natural Resource (or something similar).

My favourite is still the one next to 75 in north Florida, after all the ones about baby heartbeats and stuff, that says 'Please don't abandon your newborn baby' and then a phone number. CAUSE--->EFFECT, MUCH?

incidentally, did you know the Dept of Health and Human Services just turned down the FDA's proposal that Plan B be made available over the counter? Supposedly to protect ~the children~ because no studies have been done to see what effect it has on girls 18 and younger. Fucking Tylenol is more dangerous than Plan B (all it is is hormones, ffs! The worst it can do is throw off your cycle and give you PMS symptoms; you can't die or get permanent liver damage from taking too much of it!) But it's an election year, what else can we expect. Oh god I just can't with how stupid people are about reproduction. You'd think they'd actually be in favor of something that prevents abortions.

wow, I had not heard that :( I guess they did that because TEEN PREGNANCY IS SO VERY SAFE AND HEALTHY. I will say, I'm used to teenage pregnancy & motherhood being more taboo than it is here - it's one of those classist UK things - but still, pregnancy has one hell of a lot more harmful side effects than contraception does. /facepalm forever

Is it bad that this bugs me in terms of technological advance as much as anything? There is this whole wealth of life-improving medical technology out there and there are people who think this is a bad thing, well, right up until the moment when they personally need to use it.

[Coincidentally, I wrote the above paragraphs last night while DW was in maintenance mode for a code update, so I couldn't post it at the time; today I ran into this gorgeous, very sensible lady of 19 or 20 years old who used to be a coworker, and oh my fuck she has a baby bump. I was asking about her plans to go to school and study radiography but oh, no, that's off now. She was pretending everything was okay and she was happy, but wow do I not buy it. I feel bad for her losing her youth (and her awesome body) like that. You only live once, may as well be too selfish to have kids.

Attitudes towards unwed mothers have really changed over the decades. All babies are a blessing, while simultaneously being punishment for sluts. How does that work, exactly? But even though you don't see many pregnant girls end up on the street anymore, they can still be damn sure they and their babies will never rise far above the poverty line, unless they're really exceptionally lucky.
