and today the LCR decided to talk to me about ANCHOR BABIES and I exploded in his face.
a) could someone please explain to me why people actively try to regale me with their anti-immigrant fauxnews conspiracy theory bullshit? I am an immigrant. Why would I want to hear it?
b) do people really get into all these conniptions about immigration law while not having a blind clue what it actually says oh dear god. you cannot get a family visa unless the American family member in question is over 21. this is my life, you bunch of fucks, and you are lying to my face about it. at least I get to respond with 'your constitution says that you're wrong'.
c) BONUS FACT: the horribleness of Mexico's immigration policing wrt Central America does not excuse the fact that the entire US dialogue about immigration is not horribly racist wrt Mexicans.
d) totally unrelated to the above, but, not least because of these stellar displays of tv-news-fed stupid I figure the best you can do for the people around you is talk about it; while bitching about the Department of Homeland Security at work a couple of months ago, a (relatively dim) person expressed surprise. She said she didn't know that Europeans had to go through immigration - she thought 'that was only for people from Mexico and places like that'.
I was tired, and didn't realise until later that what she'd meant was that she thought the immigration system was only for brown people. I know this is GA but what in the everloving fuck is wrong with you all. god.
