I'm trying to remember who it was who referred to this entire long weekend as Mammontide. Some blogger or other. I like that one. It's interesting seeing all the outrage about the huge chainstores who are having people work on Thanksgiving - don't you know that working on a sacred family holiday is something only women do, for free, and shouldn't be crassly commercialised, even if Thanksgiving weekend is the annual highpoint of commercial americana? Of course most of the people who work at large chainstores are women, which begs the question of who is going to clean all the fuck up at home while they get to their time-and-a-half shifts. Not that it's holidays that are the problem, really - there's this well-researched tendency for routine, day-in-day-out tiring stuff to be mostly left to women, while men step in for non-daily tasks.

I made two almond cakes (two because H is allergic to the flavour Ting really wanted) last night while H made dinner, got too tired to even think about doing anything else, then had a flaming argument with M at 2am that led to us making our veg contribution together. Thus far today; lost two games of Dominion, broken one wineglass (not mine, and I wasn't even touching it at the time? I am magical), watched Ting flip when her eldrich cooking device mysteriously changed setting from 'warm dough' to 'flaming hot jam' without anyone touching it (????), had an older woman play with my hair. Having shittonnes of hair regularly causes this weird dynamic where more feminine women start dolling on me; fortunately, I usually enjoy this. Drunker the better, on all counts. Not eaten much but salami. not bad.
