thene: A fearsome ninja biscuit poised to attack. But some crumbs have fallen, reminding us of our frailty in the face of time (ninja biscuits)
because I really really hate them and am tired of the vapidity, the terrible staccato ads, the beach goddamn volleyball and the assumption that I am more interested in celebs' family members than watching actual sport.

This goes out to everyone who is as technically inept as I am!:

-open the addons tab in your browser menu, and download foxyproxy (or some other proxy-making thing). Install it. There is an old Lifehacker post about this but the proxy it's using no longer works; the pictures were helpful to me though.
-go here: http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-GB.htm (ETA: right now I'm having more joy with http://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-gb/ - you might want to try that first). Click things. The first one failed, but the second one down is working for me rn.
-click the foxyproxy icon in the nav bar, select your beautiful GB XRoxy, click 'edit selection' and go add www.bbc.co.uk* (asterisk included) to the whitelist which is in the third tab. (You might also want to visit the first tab to change the icon colour to something different from the default blue, so you know when it's doing its thing).
-go here and watch any or all of the things: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video

It's been a bit spotty - I had to reload for a while at one point to get it to work again - but it is doing pretty good. I am using the pop-up player rather than the default version because I figured it would have a smaller footprint, and I really don't need the interactive shit.

ETA: it's also slowing my browser down noticeably, so I've been disabling it when I'm not using it.
