So! We all saw POTC4 and it was about a million billion times more fun than stupid thinks-it's-srs Thor, though none of us ever got the faintest clue why the pretty topless missionary was in it. I am having a very quiet day today, but my mad babbling from last night went something like this:

ON MERMAIDS
-if men imagine a collective of women who possess physical strength and aggression, they posit that these women will rape men. Kinda weird seeing a male rape fantasy sat out there in the middle of mainstream culture.
(M disputes this because the sex involved is consensual - it's just the vore that isn't. I am conflating the two because if someone's into vore fantasies that means that sex and vore are basically the same thing, right?)
-you take a woman away from the collective. There is this great and telling shot of the missionary peeling off his shirt to give to her - because for 'modesty' to exist, for women's bodies to be seen as profane and indecent, men's bodies have to be neutralised and normalised. Men have to override our bodily normalcy with their own.
-detour: colonialism. The whole film (SPOILERRR) is a delightful tale about the wrongs of colonial despoilation - featuring the wanton destruction of a monument, supposedly to protect the Christian faith, and this is even portrayed as a bad thing - but without any surrounding culture. I guess that would be too much like actually talking about the European invasion of the Americas. So there's mysterious architecture, and it gets destroyed, but there are no architects, no stonemasons. We see an object ruined. There are no people to see being similarly treated. ...except for the mermaids.
-There is an amazing article on the feministsf blog about how women's bodies are 'colonised' but said blog is down right now :( tl;dr processes and anatomical features that women have had inside them & known plenty about for millennia get 'discovered' by male medical scientists and cut up, named, explained. hi, we already knew. As all femslashers know this process is also helped along by the straight male porn industry, leaving us with no useful words for our cunts. Men take off their shirts, because their bodies are neutral and normal, and cover women up, because women's bodies are so weird and wrong.
-and need destroying. Take a physically strong and aggressive woman away from the collective and suddenly she is too helpless to even move?
-make a woman alone. Absolutely do not allow her to speak to another woman about something other than a man. Do not allow her to name herself - you're the one with the flag, right?
-aloneness/suddenly acquired helplessness/when surrounded by strrrong men what you need is one particular strrrrong man to protect you from all the other strrrrong men, and take off his shirt so that he can be naked and you can't!

or

alternatively

you could dive back down and stick with the Society For Cutting Up Men

i'mjustsaying

and maybe not allow a collective of women to become a metaphor for the real historical colonial violence they've erased, while you're at it

I really did like that film! /overthinkingit
