thene: petals flying away in the breeze. (flying away)
That was, believe it or not, immaculate timing on Peter's part; Dee (his custodian) is moving down to Florida at the end of the month and was worrying about how he'd cope with the long journey and with settling into a new place, esp. because he couldn't see much around his cataracts and because he suffered in hot weather enough just up here. And then there was the fire; while we were waiting for the smoke to clear, M and me sat out back with all the dogs (five of them, at that point) and because it was cold and he was shivery Peter spent a couple of hours swaddled in a few layers of towels and sweaters and held in M's lap, thus making him feel like the warmest, mostest-loved dog in the world.

More bad news; our friend has been getting hit with student loan repayments and now can't take the other Jack Russell. So we have about two weeks to find somewhere else for her to live, and feel like we've shaken every tree already. We can't afford to keep her ourselves as we're stretched enough by having to pay a pet deposit at our newplace just for the Grendel. We're trying to persuade Dee to keep her. *crosses fingers*

Technically, newplace has an 80lb weight limit on allowable puppies. Technically, Grendel is more like 90lbs but I think it unlikely that they are going to actually weigh my dog, so we just lied on the form. The leasing agent we spoke to is a v. puppy person and is going to fall in love with him on sight, I am quite sure. I'm hoping he'll adjust well - he'll miss having a backyard to run around in, but we'll also be very close to Kennesaw Mountain, which is a place he & I both love walking up. What I'm most worried about is his habit of barking in response to unexpected people-noises or dog-noises...am hoping there simply won't be too much sound spillover from nearby, and that not too many of our neighbours will have dogs.

I may have ranted here earlier this year about the other two dogs here, the ones that belong to the people I would rather not be living with, not being neutered. In retrospect this is ironic.
