the snowpocalypse

My morning shift got cut; my afternoon shift called early, because my morning-shift coworker (who is quite a character, and I shall call her Ms Broad (of the Boston Broads), because she referred to herself as one of such, though she is actually really tiny; she has successfully made my least favourite coworker hate her, as he related to me at length today, as he stopped by randomly to irritate me - I feel like Ms Broad and I have a good-cop-bad-cop arrangement going on here) had to leave to take care of her kid; I got there after she left, lights off and no one home, and settled into the back to catch up on paperwork. I got a lot done, and left a few things undone, but I was glad I did; it got much worse even as I was walking home.

M took Grendel down Ferry Street to meet me. There weren't many people still out, mostly just cops and snowploughs, but I passed a very happy guy going the other way who was full of snow-fuelled glee, so I wished him a merry christmas and he wished me a happy new year. Matthew found me when he was just past the park; none of our local parks allow dogs any more, but the snow was still falling and we didn't care and we lost one of the frisbees but Grendel was the happiest Grendel ever. Although snowploughs scare him. He pulled me home, and I was grateful because I'd been surprised how hard it was to walk uphill in several inches of snow, still falling horizontal; breathing wasn't so easy.

After we left the park, we met a guy, who M had spoken to on the way over; his girlfriend (? I think) had run out into the snow, drunk and suicidal. I swear I hadn't passed a woman on the way up Ferry, only a few men, and we said we'd keep looking as we went home. I wanted to tell one of the cops but their cars were always just ahead of us, idling on corners and then turning out of sight.
