PROTIPS aka how much I hate NBC right now:

because I really really hate them and am tired of the vapidity, the terrible staccato ads, the beach goddamn volleyball and the assumption that I am more interested in celebs' family members than watching actual sport.

This goes out to everyone who is as technically inept as I am!:

-open the addons tab in your browser menu, and download foxyproxy (or some other proxy-making thing). Install it. There is an old Lifehacker post about this but the proxy it's using no longer works; the pictures were helpful to me though.
-go here: http://www.xroxy.com/proxy-country-GB.htm (ETA: right now I'm having more joy with http://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-gb/ - you might want to try that first). Click things. The first one failed, but the second one down is working for me rn.
-click the foxyproxy icon in the nav bar, select your beautiful GB XRoxy, click 'edit selection' and go add www.bbc.co.uk* (asterisk included) to the whitelist which is in the third tab. (You might also want to visit the first tab to change the icon colour to something different from the default blue, so you know when it's doing its thing).
-go here and watch any or all of the things: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video

It's been a bit spotty - I had to reload for a while at one point to get it to work again - but it is doing pretty good. I am using the pop-up player rather than the default version because I figured it would have a smaller footprint, and I really don't need the interactive shit.

ETA: it's also slowing my browser down noticeably, so I've been disabling it when I'm not using it.

OH MY GOD, DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON NBC

TOO LATE

I am furious that there is a scarcity of videos up on the internet that I can watch because guess what, NBC! I don't have a normal schedule! I love their commercials a whole lot better than I do the Superbowl's, but I hate their frequency and the interviews and akdj;fakjds;flakdj;lkadj; I hate everything about them, especially when they delve into US swimming. The whole Phelps vs Lochte thing? You guys, those two are like the chillest dudes of them all. EVERYBODY, LEAVE MICHAEL PHELPS ALONE. JESUS. JUST LET ME WATCH MY GODDAMN SWIMMING AND STOP PLAYING UP A RIVALRY THAT DOESN'T EVEN REALLY MATTER. THE ONLY RIVALRY YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING UP IS SWIMMER VS THE CLOCK, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT COUNTS IN TRAINING AND IN THE POOL

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I obviously have all the feels.

tl;dr thank you for this

I've resolved only to watch NBC for the qualifying heats because it isn't primetime and who gives a fuck about qualifying heats, anyway? And yes, it would be fabulous to see more than thirty seconds at a time of athletes from other countries! What, am I not allowed to have crushes on and geek out over swimmers who aren't ours? Geeze.

BBC1 has been much more annoying on that regard than BBC3 or the red button channel. Best of all is the 24-ish internet streams that basically just have action and commentary, though the fencing one's inability to change pistes is really annoying.

Rowing is fun. :) But I have it on radio because my work computer's flash is out of date... what do you mean? Of course I'm working! *tiptoes out*

But I bloopered on my Olympic cake. The first three rings went in the right order. The fourth went on wrong so the fifth had to go on wrong too. :( I hope it's tasty anyway - strawberry cupcake recipe made with blueberries instead of strawberries, doubled and put into a cake tin rather than made as cupcakes. Should have worked.
